Annual Giving Campaign
Helping Students Catch Up
Can you imagine what life would be like without a high-quality education? In the spring of 2020 the pandemic upended almost every aspect of K-12 education. It abruptly closed our doors, stifled the connections our children and educators needed to be successful in learning, and challenged everyone in unimaginable ways. Today we need your donation to help catch students up to pre-pandemic levels of educational achievement.
Despite the high-quality, online instruction our teachers provided when stay at home orders were implemented and families transitioned between hybrid and online education, there is simply no replacement for in-person learning. Most students missed out on valuable learning time which has led to significant delays in educational growth. These learning losses have impacted each and every demographic of MCCSC student, regardless of age, ethnicity, income, and ability.
This fall most of our students returned to in-person learning. While this is exciting it is also revealing the tall task before us. Grant requests the Foundation of MCCS has received from our schools echo the need for books and high-quality literature to reengage children in reading. A teacher stated that 33% of the sixth graders at their school had read no books over the summer months. A literacy coach shared that the reading skills of many first graders are below the average. “It’s like they never attended kindergarten.” Analysis shows that students are on average five to six months behind in foundational math skills.
The challenge before us is to catch students up to pre-pandemic levels of educational achievement. Staffing shortages across the district are exacerbating this daunting task and highlighting the critical need for hands-on resources and intervention materials to support students and teachers. We need your help.
Will you please renew your commitment to our students today? Your gift, in any amount, is essential to providing resources and intervention initiatives that support student learning and build academic success.
